Why Greece Goes Bankrupt

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by NikZulkhairi · 0

This article was emailed by Uncle Steven Lim. It supposed to be a normal cheer-up-your-day email, sent by colleagues and friends on daily routine. But the content of the article is quite interseting and it's worth to be given a thought. Afraid that one day our beloved country will fall apart like that as well.

I have just watched a documentary regarding Greece 's financial and am appalled ! These are the why's and how's that this historic and beautiful country came to grieve.

Bureaucracy: Greece's bureaucracy is famous in the whole of Europe ! To open a cafe or pub there are 25 processes to go through !! This is a country of rules and regulations.

Bloated civil service: There are 1.05 milliion civil servants (excluding police and armed forces) . The population of Greece is only 10 million !! More than 10% are govt servants !! Salary increases every year and benefit for civil servants in Greece is one of the best in Europe !! More and more money is needed to upkeep this bloated civil servants . The retirement age is 62 yrs old.

Corruption: Greece is the most corrupted nation in the Eurozone. Citizens pay "under table " money to: # admit into a public hospital # pass a driving licence # to enter public service # renovate your business premises or your home # avoid income tax

Every govt project is awarded to political cronies and at hugely inflated prices ! Transparency International compared the prices of the construction costs of stadiums built for the Athens Olympics recently with similar structures in China --500% more expensive than the Chinese , compared to Los Angeles and Sydney -- 50 % more expensive !!! All these with tax payers money ! and borrowings !!!

Tax evasion: Officially 80% of its citizens are supposed to pay tax but only 37% are doing so. Big businessmen and corporations have refined tax evasion to a fine art ( or have the tax men taken some coffee money ? )

No transparency in governance: The politicians and bureaucrats falsified economic data and painted a rosy and manageable picture while the economy was rotting away .

Unabated borrowings: Meanwhile, the politicians and bureaucrats continue to issue govt bonds to keep afloat, series after series. They were trying to cover up the financial mess they have created creating one big hole to cover up the previous !!

Lacking political will power to reform: To keep hold on to political power, politicians are prepared to lie, commit economic and political fraud. If reforms were taken some five years ago , the country need not go bankrupt and its citizens need not suffer so much. Political expediency and greed to political power over-rides everything and hence Greece is now a bankrupt country. Luckily, it is part of the European Union and its currency is EUROs, otherwise Greeks will have to eat grass to survive !!

Laid back attitude: Tourism is THE ONLY industry in Greece and over the years the Greeks have had an easy time. Many flocked to see the historical sites. enjoy summer vacation on the islands. But they forgot that not many tourists will returned after visiting the sites --there are so many other tourists attractions in the world, maybe more exotic and perhaps cheaper !! So once tourism vanes and couple with higher costs of living --the Greeks could not and refused to adapt and transform --still partying and having a nice time -- maybe the Greek Gods will bless them !!! Greece have no natural resources, no electronics industry , no R & D --no anything !! They were so laid back --cannot see what is coming and crashing down on them. Even now, the civil servants refused to take a pay cut -- the world owes them a living !!

Poignant Conclusion: The producer of the documentary had hired a raxi driver to go around while doing this documentary. The taxi driver had studied economics for 4 years in US and this was his parting words: "My biggest mistake was returning 15 years ago, I should have stayed back in US. My nationalist instinct made me returned. The politicians screwed me. I loved my country but my country did not love me !!!!
Friends, I can see a lot of similarity in Malaysia . I need not go into boring details, it is there for all to realise. Unless we transform politically and economically, sadly this day will surely come .

It is not IF, but WHEN !! 1MALAYSIA. MALAYSIA BOLEH !!! Cheers

Kakak dan CERIAnya..

Monday, May 10, 2010 by NikZulkhairi · 0

Kalau dah tengok CERIA, adik ajak main pun kakak buat bodoh je. Bagi kakak CERIA adalah segala-galanya. Kalau tak caya, tengok la gambar kat tu, macam-macam posisi kakak tengok CERIA.

Nak gosok gigi, nak mandi, nak makan, nak main, apa-apa hal kena tengok CERIA dulu. Begitulah obsesnya kakak dengan CERIA.

Antara cerita-cerita yg kakak suka dalam ceria:

  • Hagemaru: cerita kartun pasal budak jepun yg suka kenakan orang.

Dulu cerita ni Ok tapi sekarang dah melalut banyak.

  • Hikayat Putera Shazlan: cerita budak dengan buku ajaib.

  • Detective Conan: cerita penyiasatan, favourite kakak.

  • Ultraman Cosmos: cerita pasal ultraman lawan saksaksa (cara kakak sebut).

Siapa Bakal Bertakhta: Si Biru Atau Setan Merah

Thursday, May 6, 2010 by NikZulkhairi · 0

Adik sekarang dengar orang cakap pasal bola hampir tiap-tiap hari. Diorang cakap hujung minggu ni ada big game. Yang biru nak kena menang, terus jadi champion. Tapi si setan merah nak kena tunggu si biru kalah lepas tu dia kena menang dengan team chokia tu, baru diorang boleh jadi champion. Tapi adik bukan la nak cerita sangat pasal siapa nak menang siapa nak kalah. Dua-dua team tu memang bagus. Tapi adik tahu papa memang benci sangat kat setan merah tu.

Kalau ditanya ' kau support team mana?' sebahagian besarnya akan jawab 'of course la mencheste unaited, the bestest team in the world'. chit podah..

Diorang sokong sebab orang lain sokong. Orang macam ni lah kalau sembang pasal bola kat kedai mamak, mengalahkan Shebby Singh. From A to Z, semua dia tahu. Dia sorang bagus, orang lain tak bagus. Dalam facebook pun sama. Team dia je yg power. Team lain tak power. Chit podah..

Dia orang sokong bukan membuta tuli. Diorang sokong sebab diorang tahu pasal history dan jugak value tentang sesebuah kelab. Penyokong macam ni memang adik respek laa..

Tapi apa-apa hal, si setan merah memang tak boleh jadi champion musim ni.. papa cakap laa..

The Real Facts behind 10 Common Credit Score Fictions

Tuesday, May 4, 2010 by NikZulkhairi · 0

If you’re a fan of TV’s “Mythbusters,” then you may already know the truth about many popular fictions – like how a heated Jawbreaker can explode when you bite into it, or that a home ceiling fan cannot decapitate you, or that your toilet seat is the cleanest surface in your house. While these are fun myths to debunk, knowing the facts of these fictional stories probably won’t affect your personal finances.

What can impact your wallet is what you know - and just as importantly, what you don’t know - about your credit score. Your credit score is a three-digit numerical representation of your credit-worthiness, or how likely you are to reliably pay back money you borrow. It may seem simple enough, but credit scores aren't always intuitive. Even when you think you’re doing the right thing financially, you may be actually hurting your credit score.
When it comes to credit reports and scores, knowledge is power. Here are the real facts behind 10 common credit score fictions:

Fiction: The more money you make, the better your credit score will fare.
Fact: Your income has nothing to do with your credit score. It’s not reported to the credit bureaus or listed on your credit report.

Fiction: Once you’ve paid a past-due debt, it will drop off of your credit report.
Fact: Late payments and other negative information remain on your credit report for seven years from the date of the initial late payment. Bankruptcies typically stick around for 10 years from the bankruptcy filing date. While that black mark may continue to soil your credit report, however, its effect on your credit score will lessen over time.

Fiction: Credit bureaus never make mistakes.
Fact: Nearly eight in 10 credit reports contain a serious error or some sort of mistake, according to a survey by the U.S. Public Interest Research Groups. Because many errors can negatively impact your credit score, it’s important to check your credit report regularly and dispute any inaccuracies you find. To take a look at your credit report and score for free, and dispute credit report errors online, visit Quizzle.com.

Fiction: Practicing a cash-only policy will help your credit score.
Fact: Having good credit is a function of having credit available to you and using it responsibly. If you don’t have or use credit, you may have no credit history at all and if you do, your credit score won’t be as good as someone who consistently demonstrates responsible use of credit over time.

Fiction: All credit reports and credit scores are the same.
Fact: You have three main credit reports – one from Experian, Equifax and Transunion – plus a variety of credit scores. The information listed on each of your credit reports may vary and your credit scores – even if based on a single report – may also vary. No one credit report or score is better than the others. They all seek to document your credit history and assess your credit risk.

Fiction: How responsibly you manage your checking, savings and investment accounts will impact your credit score.
Fact: Like income, your checking, savings and investment account activity is not reported to the credit bureaus and does not affect your credit score.

Fiction: Closing credit card accounts will help your credit score.
Fact: When you close a credit card account, you may be affecting your “credit utilization.” Credit utilization is simply how much credit you use (balances) compared to how much credit is available to you (credit limits). Closing a credit card account lowers the amount of credit that’s available to you, which may increase your credit utilization percentage if you maintain balances on any of your other credit cards. A higher credit utilization may negatively impact your credit score.

Fiction: Pulling your own credit report will lower your credit score.
Fact: When you pull your credit report for your own educational purposes, it’s considered a “soft inquiry” and will not affect your credit score. On the other hand, when a creditor or lender pulls your credit report for the purpose of extending you credit or a loan, it’s a “hard inquiry” and may negatively impact your credit score.

Fiction: If a bill or debt isn’t generally reported to the credit bureaus, missing a payment won’t affect your credit score.
Fact: Any time you pay a bill late or don’t pay at all, that activity can be reported to the credit bureaus. Different companies have different policies about reporting late payments or negative information, but never assume that just because you’ve never seen a particular bill listed on your credit report that it can’t negatively impact your credit score if you don’t pay it.

Fiction: Disputing accurate information will remove it from your credit report.
Fact: You can only dispute information on your credit report that is inaccurate. When you dispute information on your credit report, the credit bureau has 30 days to investigate. If it finds the dispute to be valid, it will remove the inaccurate information. If, however, the dispute claim is found to be false, that information will not be removed from your credit report. Beware of credit repair companies claiming that they can get negative – albeit accurate – information removed from your credit report. This practice is illegal and these companies are generally scams.
